STEPS Public art strategy plan for Downtown Stratford, Ontario, Canada

In 2022, the City of Stratford engaged STEPS Public Art to develop a cultural and public art strategy for Downtown Stratford, Ontario. Using creative data gathering stations, STEPS hosted pop-up activity stations where community members contributed ideas through participatory methods such as ribbon-weaving and public paintings. These creative pop-up events transformed interactions into both objects/data, capturing community visions for public art. Insights were mobilized into models, visualized in reports, and synthesized into the Downtown Stratford BIA Public Art Plan (2023). This plan now guides decision-making, shaping long-term strategies for equity, inclusion, reconciliation, resilience, and placemaking through public art.
