Tomorrow’s Chinatown: Chinatown Cultural Plan
This project, led by the City of Calgary, created the city’s first neighbourhood-specific Cultural Plan alongside a new Area Redevelopment Plan. Using cultural resource mapping, interviews, and roundtable sessions, the project engages residents and stakeholders to capture Chinatown’s stories, values, and cultural assets. Community input generated creative pieces such as virtual talks and audio recordings, as well as geolocation data and keywords that were visualized into maps, graphs, and charts. These insights shaped the draft Chinatown Cultural Plan, ensuring that cultural heritage informs policymaking and future development, while inspiring related initiatives like the Chinatown Public Art Plan.
